Helpful tips for ordering prints from your gallery
Let’s say that you have been viewing your proofing gallery and have decided on which photos you would like to have prints of. This series of short articles will help you make more informed decisions about print size, paper finish and cropping when adding print products to your shopping cart along.
Print Size
The most commonly ordered print sizes are 5×7, 8×10, 4×6, & 8×12. To keep things simple, these are the only sizes I offer in the shopping cart for standard prints (as opposed to canvas prints or framed prints). However, if you would like a larger size, please contact me directly and I can help you order prints at almost any size and dimension.
It’s important to consider how you plan to use the image when thinking about print sizes. Smaller sizes like 5×7 are great for albums or framed prints that you might keep on a desk or coffee table.
If you want to hang your print on a wall, the smallest size I recommend is 8×10 – and even that might seem diminutive depending on framing, matting, and the space in which it will be displayed.
The photograph on the wall in this living room is printed at 32×40 and fits well in the space. Just imagine how small an 8×10 print would appear in the same spot! If you’re unsure of what size print to hang on your wall, I’ve got some helpful information in this article.
Regardless of the size of print you are considering, you will need to keep in mind the actual dimensions of the image and how that relates to various print sizes and their natural dimensions. I’ll take a closer look at this very important tip next (coming soon!).
