We’ve had our fair share of winter this year here in Connecticut. And while most folks are cursing Ol’ Man Winter as they shovel out the driveway, it was all smiles at the 2015 Hartford Art Sled Derby. Organized by area artists, the Hartford Art Sled Derby was initially inspired by the Art Sled Rally in Minneapolis, MN.
On Valentine’s Day 2015, several hundred participants and spectators lined the hill at the Elizabeth Park Overlook and made the most out of what the weekly storms and frigid temperatures have bestowed on us. Participants decorated their sleds and often themselves, with themes ranging from Minecraft and flu shots to the abstract “Improv Sled” created by the local comedy troupe Sea Tea Improv.
Each year this family friendly event continues to grow with increasing numbers of sleds and on-looking fans. If you, or your organization would like to participate in the derby next year, just “like” the Hartford Art Sled Derby’s Facebook page and stay tuned. Event detail are posted several months in advance in order to give everyone plenty of time to mark their calendars and build their slippery works of art.
